The loom; a device for weaving.  Echoing this definition metaphorically, The Loom's aim is to stimulate and weave collaborative paths toward creative ideas and product and which, ideally, challenges or disrupts conventional or linear thinking and outcomes.

The unique, intimate environment at The Loom provides the opportunity for creative expression within  a series of private and relaxing spaces, from painting, writing and making through to digital and moving image design. There are rooms and facilities available to hold meetings and workshops. Spaces can also be arranged for use in a gallery format for the exhibition and display of works.

One of the key aims is to develop an evolving creative environment through a flux of activity and thinking, generated both by those based at The Loom, and those passing through.

The Loom was founded by designer David Gordon in 2020, borne out of a wish to bring together passion and skills across a range of creative disciplines in order to explore what happens.

David has worked in both science and the creative industries for a number of years, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He is keen to integrate his own creative and business skills and experience with developing activities at The Loom.

“Design is in everything we make, but it's also between those things. It's a mix of craft, science, storytelling, propaganda and philosophy.”

DesignLab & GreyMattr, established to engage with commercial creative projects and the philosophical issues related to creative design respectively, are intended to work alongside site-based activities such as ArtsGuild.

Not forgetting the Knitting Circle; a small and semi-intimate band of souls who like to meet occasionally and informally with the aim of knocking about opinions and ideas to stimulate the mind and creative impulse.

Fields are very close in all directions, so fantastic walks are never far away, with wonderful vistas to encourage drawing, painting or writing - or just thinking.  And with two beautiful pubs in the village to choose from, fresh air and good food and drink are not optional.

A number of buildings and features, arranged around a private enclosed yard set behind double gates, provides an intimate collection of unique spaces, and generates an environment designed to stimulate the creative spirit, and encourage a collaborative dynamic.

The Barn Studio and Makers' Space provide facilities for designing, either traditionally, with workshop space for those who are makers, or digitally, with several workstations employing state of the art motion design, vfx and editing software.

The new Cottage Studio has flexible space for use as art studio, writing, breakout meetings, sleeping over. And, having it's own bathroom, kitchen and service facilities is totally self-contained and ideal for short stays.

The whole is set right in the heart of a beautiful Suffolk village, across a small river from the central meadow, which leads to the lively village pub, and also enjoys the adjacent company of an award-winning bar/restaurant.
